Activities
Research
Action research brings evidence-based community-based studies to policy researchers in the area of disaster risk reduction. Some of ACE DRR’s research projects are listed below.
- Role of MF and MI tools in Disaster Management: a study in India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
- Coping with disasters: Participatory designing of efficient cropping pattern for rainfed areas.
- Post Tsunami fisheries livelihood and its sustainability in Palk bay region.
- Vulnerability mapping, preparation of disaster atlas and contingency plan for select panchayats.
Pilot Projects
ACE DRR will develop models and tools that demonstrate how to integrate development and DRR through pilot projects. ACE DRR currently has fifteen pilots in eleven thematic areas, covering five different disaster contexts (flood, cyclone, tsunami, drought, and epidemics) in three geographical contexts (tribal, rural, and coastal).
Database Creation
ACE DRR will create and maintain a “disaster database” which will cater to the needs of humanitarian professionals, institutions, and the community. Additionally, it will create a regularly updated online knowledge portal for sharing knowledge on DRR.
These products will help identify and develop practical ways of integrating DRR strategies into development plans and actions.
Training and Education
ACE DRR will promote DRR among communities, media, educational institutions and development workers.
These trainings will provide capacity building opportunities to development agencies, trainers, educational institutions, and government officers.
Documentation and Publication
ACE DRR will document the good practices and DRR models already in existence and will actively disseminate these practices to a wider audience.
Networking and Consultancy
Networking will help ACE DRR capitalise on the collective strength for the cause of enabling DRR.
Policy Advocacy
ACE DRR will support policy by conducting policy reviews and working with advocacy platforms.
