Your Tasks
You will work in groups and look at past immigration patterns to America. There are three main parts to this WebQuest. After you read the summary of each part of the WebQuest, you may want to look at the evaluation page to get an idea of how your work might be scored. Your scores will be recorded in your Passport as you complete each part of the WebQuest.
- Part 1 deals with Immigration History. To do this part, you need to do a Web activity as well as a home activity. You will need to talk to your parents and relatives and see if you can trace your family's immigration pattern. For some of you, your family may have moved to America a long time ago; for others the move might have been quite recent.
- In Part 2, your group will look at different reasons for and against immigration. To do this, you will also pick a country from a list and find out a bit about that country. When you have some background about that country, you will need to think about why you might want to move from that country. You will also have to think about the viewpoint of Americans. How does having more immigrants change things in your community?
- Part 3 takes a little bit of imagination. Your group needs to pretend that you are a family planning to move to America. In this part of your WebQuest, you need to think about some specific things that might be difficult on your journey. Some of you will pretend to be parents while others will be the children for this activity.
